Mount Kilimanjaro is 5895 metres above the sea level and is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. In 2013, 2015 and 2016 Mount Kilimanjaro has been awarded to be Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 it has been nominated to be the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction. The rate of tourists who visit it has increased from 28,000 tourists in 2003 to 52,000 tourists in 2012. All this generated the US $51 millions in revenue in 2013, the second-most of any Tanzanian national park. That makes the tourism sector the leading sector in the Tanzanian economy.

In 1912 scientists have discovered that the ice of Mount Kilimanjaro covered 85 percent, almost 40 percent had disappeared by 2011 – because of the melting and sublimation of the mass glacier due to the climate changes.

Around Mount Kilimanjaro, there’s a number of Eco and Cultural Tourism Programs conducting their cultural activities. They benefit from the tourists who are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and contributing to preserving the ice of Mount Kilimanjaro from melting by doing environmental conservation.
